The new Trinity plant in Wolfsburg is conceived as a central element of the factory’s renewal programme, shaping both the industrial landscape and its urban identity. On a site of over one hundred hectares, the masterplan combines large-scale production facilities with carefully integrated open spaces, ensuring a balance between efficiency, sustainability, and public perception. The design addresses the challenge of scale by introducing a clear structure: production halls are defined by a rational grid and spanned by a hybrid timber-steel roof, while landscaped buffers, retention basins and planted façades embed the ensemble within its surroundings.
A continuous landscape strategy creates protection from noise, supports biodiversity and offers new spaces for recreation. Roof areas are activated with gardens and photovoltaic fields, transforming the building envelope into an energy-generating and publicly accessible surface. Rainwater is collected and retained in ponds, supporting a resilient water cycle. Movement across the site is reimagined through an autonomous “People Mover” system that reduces the need for surface parking and connects the production halls with the wider Autostadt. A new bridge links the Trinity plant directly to the main Wolfsburg factory, covered with earth and planting to merge with the landscape.
