The new HDI-Gerling headquarters in Hanover consolidates 1,800 employees within a flexible and transparent workplace. Six storeys are framed by landscaped bands and organised around a generous central atrium that functions both as an event space and an everyday meeting point. From this hub, three vertical cores and U-shaped office wings extend, creating clarity of orientation and a rhythm of open, collaborative spaces. The design deliberately avoids hierarchy: open-plan work areas accommodate up to six employees per unit, fostering accessibility and communication.
A defining quality of the project is its high degree of modularity. Prefabricated structural and façade elements repeat systematically across the complex, allowing for rapid, efficient construction and ensuring long-term adaptability. This strategy not only reduced time and cost but also minimised construction waste, anchoring the project in sustainable building practice. Ecological performance is further reinforced by geothermal energy, district heating, thermally activated slabs, and smart ventilation systems that balance efficiency with comfort. With its repetitive yet flexible modules, the HDI-Gerling headquarters exemplifies how prefabrication can deliver streamlined, low-carbon architecture – future-ready, adaptable and distinctly modern.
