On 15 November 2025, we were part of Building Relations at the Faculty of Architecture at RWTH Aachen University - an event bringing together students, young professionals and architecture and planning practices to exchange perspectives on architectural practice and future careers.
Under the title “Nah am Wasser gebaut - wie Bauen uns über Wasser hält”, our workshop focused on architecture in direct relationship with water and the particular opportunities and challenges that come with building at the water’s edge.
The workshop introduced selected projects from our practice that address architecture in direct relation to water, providing a basis for examining the specific design, technical and structural challenges associated with waterfront locations.
Building on this introduction, around 20 students developed design proposals for Düsseldorf’s MedienHafen. Focusing on the harbour basin and its urban context, the workshop explored different architectural approaches to building at and with water. The resulting concepts were presented and discussed collectively, reflecting a broad range of strategies for the future development of the site.
