The first trees are taking root on the rooftop gardens of the UNIQ TOWERS in Düsseldorf’s Media Harbour: Quercus rhysophylla ‘Maya’ and Quercus rhysophylla × rubra.
High above the city and in an exposed waterfront location, the trees face challenging conditions – strong winds, intense sunlight, heat and periods of drought. Selecting resilient tree species suited to these conditions is therefore an essential part of the landscape design.
The intensively planted rooftop gardens bring landscape and architecture together. Their vegetation provides shade, contributes to a more comfortable microclimate and creates new habitats – in the heart of the city and high above street level.
Another step towards bringing more green into Düsseldorf’s urban landscape.
