Recognition for our proposal for the new HR Academy in Grevenbroich
Ingenhoven associates has received a recognition in the competition for the new HR Academy of AOK Rheinland/Hamburg in Grevenbroich. The competition results were presented as part of the exhibition opening on 2 June 2026.
Developed in collaboration with WKM Landschaftsarchitekten, the proposal responds to the existing landscape as the defining quality of the site. The mature tree population and characteristic pond are largely preserved and integrated into the overall concept, forming the framework for a new campus for the HR Academy. Two four-storey and three three-storey volumes are arranged across the site and connected by a shared ground floor, creating an ensemble that mediates between architectural density and its landscape setting.
A transparent and permeable ground floor forms the communicative centre of the campus, bringing together the forum, hotel, training and administrative functions and providing spaces for interaction and informal exchange. Restaurant, sports bar and forum are oriented towards the park, while a series of roof terraces extends the relationship between interior and exterior and creates additional connections between the different areas of the building.
The design follows a resource-conscious construction strategy based on a prefabricated timber frame with cross-laminated timber slabs. Compact technical centres and the omission of a basement further respond to the specific groundwater and flood conditions of the site. The jury positively acknowledged this approach as contemporary, sustainable and economically viable.
In its assessment, the jury highlighted the proposal’s clear functional organisation, strong internal circulation and diverse connections to the outdoor spaces, describing the scheme overall as a “valuable contribution.”
The competition concluded with a first, second and third prize as well as a recognition for the proposal by ingenhoven associates and WKM Landschaftsarchitekten.
