The PHZ – Project House Future and the CeTI Cluster of Excellence – is conceived as a clear, layered architectural system that strengthens the centre of the TU Dresden campus.
Its articulated volumes form a precise counterpart to the Hörsaalzentrum, while existing routes are extended to create two new public spaces and a welcoming approach across the HSZ meadow.
In a carefully calibrated gesture towards the historic context, the floor plates step outwards and cantilever above the listed Verwaltungsgebäude, integrating the existing building into the new composition rather than treating it as an isolated remnant.
A central atrium forms the communicative heart of the building. A generous staircase connects all levels and creates informal spaces for meeting and exchange, while flexible workspaces, laboratories and offices are arranged to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and maximise daylight. A modular timber-hybrid structure reduces embodied carbon and enables prefabrication, adaptability and future disassembly.
Passive daylighting, natural ventilation, a high-performance façade, PVT systems, foundation heat exchangers and green retention roofs support low-carbon operation and long-term climate resilience
