The Gallusschule Grünberg is conceived as a modular learning landscape in which architecture, nature and community are closely interwoven.
A continuous planted ramp and open galleries wrap around the school, connecting every level barrier-free while forming a generous social space for movement, encounter and informal learning.
More than circulation, the ramp becomes the school’s shared promenade: linking learning courtyards, terraces and the activated roof, while giving the building a distinctive, protective green envelope.

Outside school hours, the double-helix principle allows the roof and its sports, play and urban-farming areas to be accessed independently.
Four modular volumes are arranged around a central atrium, creating a clear orientation point and a communal heart for pupils and teachers.
Flexible learning clusters support open, semi-open and enclosed teaching formats, allowing the school to adapt over time.

A prefabricated timber system reduces embodied carbon and enables future disassembly.
Natural ventilation, geothermal energy, photovoltaic-thermal systems, green roofs and rainwater retention create a low-carbon, climate-responsive school environment.
